I have spent the last five years rebuilding Belzebub from a wreck to a seaworthy blue water vessel, driven by a genuine interest in the engineering of the boat, its systems and by a longing for adventures far away from the comforts and safety of my normal life. I love to challenge my own limits and I always stay focused on my goal even if its years away. Growing up on the West coast of Sweden I have spent every summer as far as I can remember in dinghies, keelboats and tall ships exploring the coasts of Sweden, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. After this summer’s crossing of the North Atlantic I am back in Sweden working as a Project Manager in the Audio Visual industry.

I was born on a farm where my parents spent the better part of 10 years building a sailboat to live out their dreams. I have been on boats my entire life actively sailing for about 25 years. I worked as a Shipwright for close to a decade which allowed me the opportunity to sail all sorts of boats in different locations around the world such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Africa, Carribean and Americas. In 2009-2010 I bought a 28ft sloop fixed it up and sailed it over 15 000nm completing a circumnavigation of the North Atlantic (Montreal-New York-Bermuda-Azores-Portugal-Canaries-Cape Verdes-Caribbean-Montreal). In 2011 I completed my third Trnas-Atlantic sailing Belzebub from Scotland-Iceland-Greenland-Newfoundland.
I am a motivated, honest and hardworking individual who plans his trips methodically and always completes what he has started. I like challenges and feel that I am resourceful and adapt very well to new situations and difficult circumstances. I am looking forward to exploring a new route through the Arctic while highlighting the social, environmental and political change taking place in this remote part of the world.

Born in Mexico I grew up in France and Spain before settling in Boston. Adventure and travel has always been a part of my life and I send most of my time sailing, surfing, trecking and iceclimbing. Im no stranger to the cold as previous expeditions have taken me deep into Tibet and Mustang. I am currently working at the MAX New England Aquarium and have been working as a research and production assistant with award winning director and filmmaker Errol Morris.

Hello Edvin and Nicolas
I have been looking into the NW Passage as my route RTW. :)
Can I also suggest you read and learn all about the only animal in the world which will stalk and hunt man for food!
If you get ice bound and a polar bear happens by, it will break into your yacht or wait outside for you to come out. It will then kill and eat you!
As I stated, it is the only animal in the world to hunt man. Please be aware of this.

Following your blog with interest as I am living on a Monsun 31 here on the west coast of Canada. Hope to visit Alaska in a couple of years. Just doing coastal sailing right now.
I’m impressed that you are doing it on Monsun with minimal technology, just good solid equipment.
Maybe when you’re successful I’ll see you go by here.
Interesting comment about footwear as I had a friend who sailed into northern norway and he found the canadian sorel boots and mustang suits were the best way to keep warm.
I will continue to follow your trip closely.
Holy smokes! NIK, JERRY, you guys are gone. Have fun and make the most of it. And for the rest of you that I don’t know, take good care of each other and take head of all that comes before you.Best of luck. We WILL see you on the other side. Migger.
Good luck in your adventure, was nice meeting you!

I like the Brit’s advice on bears. The last bear in Britain was rounded up by the Romans and sent to the gladiator fights. But he’s right, polar bears sometimes hunt humans…but most of the time they leave us alone. The bitter truth is we don’t taste that good! What I’d like to know is why no women on the boat? Women are good at civilizing men, making them do the things their mother taught them to do. We’ll keep an eye out for you in Dutch Harbor.
CONGRATULATIONS …..Edvin , Nicholas and crew. THRILLED YOU HAVE MADE SUCH IMPORTANT HISTORY. Have been following your track with great interest. Hope you will find time in your very busy life to visit us again in Lewisporte soon………………..
Wishing you a well deserved rest…………………..Peter
Hello, Nicholas
When you get back to Montreal, what are the chances of an interview for Port Hole, the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons magazine?
If you don’t recognize the name, think way way back to Corpus Christi. If you are still confused, ask your dad.
I am now living in Saskatchewan but still involved with CPS and editing their magazine.
Besides teaching and promoting safe boating, CPS really pushes environmental and ecological issues, and your trip fits perfectly.
